Where Without Whom
There is not
A single soul among the trees
And I
Don't know where I've gone.
There is not
A single soul among the trees
And I
Don't know where I've gone.

Kaip senam
dvare
medis laikos įkibęs
prieš vėją
du šimtus ar
tris
kas žino kiek
metų,
pakrypęs toks,
lyg susirūpinęs.
O didelis jis ir
lapuotas, pilnas
žalumos.
O vėjas vis
pučia.
Aš esu
tas
medis
aš esu
tas
vėjas.

Medžiai pasiekia mano langą tarsi ilgesingas nebylios žemės balsas. (R. Tagore)
Nurimk, širdie, šie didžiuliai medžiai yra maldos. (R. Tagore)
Medžiai tarsi žemės troškimai stovi ant pirštų galiukų, kad galėtų dirstelti į dangų. (R. Tagore)

heavy things
the world cannot bear the weightlessness of sparrows
or the confetti of our illegible addresses
the moon’s breathless ascent
the world cannot bear it
so the world makes heavy things
like airplanes
and skyscrapers
like your heart
and heavy things fall down
because the world cannot bear them either
you dreamt
the ship would wreck. and the ship wrecked.
you dreamt the sky
would spit out the skyscrapers. and the sky
spit out the skyscrapers.
you. dreamt. of burning birds.
and birds burned. falling.
with wingless people. to the ground.
and now. you’re about
to sleep. hoping you’ll dream.
that you’ve lost your ability
to dream.
october
it’s quiet. again. there are clothes.
like winded ghosts. on the clothesline.
the dog barking. at something.
you can’t see. in the grass.
it’s quiet. the sky so blue.
it seems like a memory. or.
like someone else’s sky. a sky.
before you were afraid. of skies.
the world cannot bear the weightlessness of sparrows
or the confetti of our illegible addresses
the moon’s breathless ascent
the world cannot bear it
so the world makes heavy things
like airplanes
and skyscrapers
like your heart
and heavy things fall down

Pine Forest
Let us go now into the forest.
Trees will pass by your face,
and I will stop and offer you to them,
but they cannot bend down.
The night watches over its creatures,
except for the pine trees that never change:
the old wounded springs that spring
blessed gum, eternal afternoons.
If they could, the trees would lift you
and carry you from valley to valley,
and you would pass from arm to arm,
a child running
from father to father.
Let us go now into the forest.
Trees will pass by your face,
and I will stop and offer you to them,
but they cannot bend down.
The night watches over its creatures,
except for the pine trees that never change:
the old wounded springs that spring
blessed gum, eternal afternoons.
If they could, the trees would lift you
and carry you from valley to valley,
and you would pass from arm to arm,
a child running
from father to father.

Klaida
neatitaisoma mano klaida
prieš penkiolika metų žaidžiant slėpynių
įsilipt į klevą mokyklos kieme
atsisėst ant šakos ir žiūrėt kaip
neranda manęs neatitaisoma
neatitaisoma klaida neišsiduot kai visi
užmiršę mane išsiskirsto
nes prieš dešimtį metų tą klevą nukirto
supjaustė ir išvežė
o aš vis dar
slepiuosi jame
neatitaisoma mano klaida
prieš penkiolika metų žaidžiant slėpynių
įsilipt į klevą mokyklos kieme
atsisėst ant šakos ir žiūrėt kaip
neranda manęs neatitaisoma
neatitaisoma klaida neišsiduot kai visi
užmiršę mane išsiskirsto
nes prieš dešimtį metų tą klevą nukirto
supjaustė ir išvežė
o aš vis dar
slepiuosi jame

Autumn
The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."
And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.
We're all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. It's in them all.
And yet there is Someone, whose hands
infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.
